The team at Boa Technology understands that in construction or any skilled industrial work environment, a sturdy pair of work boots that provides comfort, safety and closure is crucial. The award-winning, patented Boa Closure System, is engineered to withstand the most demanding conditions and weather, and is recognized by top global footwear manufacturers like Red Wing as the most durable and secure closure system on the market.

Backed by the Boa Dialed In For Life Guarantee, Boa Technology is constantly creating and testing footwear closure solutions that provide all-day comfort, speed, security and reliability for the world’s top manufacturers. Product testing and engineering plays a critical role in everything that Boa does to create and guarantee its technology. Testers in the utility and construction fields log tens of thousands of hard-working hours putting the Boa Closure System to the test.

“Each test boot averages 1,761 work hours and the Boa Closure System has out-lasted the boot each and every time,” says Boa Field Testing Coordinator Rob Peterson. “One hardy worker logged 2,900 hours and Boa was the last part of the boot still intact. These testers ranged from home builders, to welders, to ranchers, to cement masons, to landscapers.”

Durability isn’t the only distinct feature and benefit Boa offers. Created in 1998 by Gary Hammerslag, the Boa Closure System is as simple as it looks, consisting of a lace, a spool, guides and a reel. Unlike traditional shoelaces that can cause uneven pressure due to friction when tied, the Boa Closure System allows the lace to equalize pressure around the foot, creating a customized, glove-like-fit that never comes untied. With one quick turn of the Boa reel, the shoe or boot is tightened and firmly locked in place where it will stay. Easy-to-clean, Boa laces, guides and reels are designed to repel dirt and grime.

Boa Closure System Lace and Reel Specs:

EX735 Lace: The proprietary EX735 lace consists of 49 strands of aircraft grade stainless steel wire. This lace has been specifically designed by Boa to significantly increase both abrasion resistance and fatigue durability in the toughest environments. Boa engineers have applied a unique method where the lace is not only coated with nylon, but also infused with nylon to increase both durability and tensile strength. “We have created a lace that far exceeds the durability of anything we’ve ever done,” says Boa Product Design Engineer Eric Irwin. “This lace was tested in the dirtiest and grittiest environments we could find and it outlasted the boots it was featured on every time.”

M2 Reel: This reel was designed for mid-cut or above the ankle applications, where interference with the knob may occur. M2 features an integrated shield which provides protection to the knob from the top and bottom. Both the standard M2 and M2 Coiler reels are available with the option of a shield.

I work in the offshore oilfield and I’ve had a pair of these Red Wing 2492′s for about a year. I only have 1 serious complaint about them, the toe cap wears out very quickly! To fix this I’ve used a produce call Tuff Toe that totally stopped the problem.

My husband bought a pair of redwing boots with this closure system. After he walks in them the top part loosens off, while the rest of the boot stays tight. How does he correct this.

It sounds as if he is not tightening them enough. The lacing system is designed to allow movement of the lace and a transfer of tension as the foot flexes. If this is not the case and the system has broken then I would suggest he follow the instructions below to redeem our easy Lifetime Warranty. This will allow him to order any replacement parts at no charge. Please let me know if he requires any additional assistance.

To redeem this warranty please visit our website at http://www.boatechnology.com. Mouse over “Support” on the top of the home page then click “Consumers”. On the next page, click the “REDEEM GUARANTEE” link in the top right corner. The first page will be personal information we require for shipping and identification purposes only, then the second will be the shopping cart where you will find a picture of the dial on the left side that matches your system.

Click on the picture to access the parts specific to your system. All parts will be shipped with easy to follow instructions as well as the necessary tools. The cost will zero out as you continue through the process. Once you have completed your shopping and finished the process you will get a receipt of your request via email.

My boa lace system is extremely noisy when I move around. I work in an extremely dusty environment and believe that may be contributing. How do I keep me quiet?

Comment by George 05.17.13 @ 8:37 am

The Boa Lace system on one my Redwing boot (left foot) always seems to slide to the inside of my boot so that the dial is touching the edge. The dial does not stay centered, causing the tongue to slide out on the outside. GRRRR! Suggestions, solution?

I would suggest having them order a replacement kit through our warranty site and using the tool that comes in it to open the dial and blow out any dust or dirt. If that doesn’t resolve it, they could then replace the system with the spare parts. Please see the instructions below, which you can also find on the Boa website here: https://www2.boatechnology.com/warranty.php
