Corrugated Ten years ago, during a recon flight to map out the mountains around Haines, AK, this face captured my imagination and never let go of it. The more I searched the world’s mountains the more I realized how unique and special this face was. Because the peak was located just over the US boarder into Canada [...] […]

“I’ve been talking to a lot of kids at the local mountain that have the Boa system on their boots and I’ve gotten nothing but good feedback from each and every one of them! I never really realized until now how sick the concept really is, and I think everyone else is going to start seeing it too.” – Boa Athlete Justin Mullen

Calvin Staub of Golden, Colorado raises the GNAR BAR in this Utah Sqaw Peak Longboard race sequence wearing the Boa Lacing System. He sets up at 40 MPH and throws a sick pendy slide right before the hairpin to check speed. Not many riders at this race had that technique down so it gave him a huge advantage since the majority of them had to drag a foot to slow down. Calvin finished first.
Calvin Staub throwing a risky Pendy slide to check speed going into this tight corner
This course was super crazy. Three and 1/2 miles long (about 6 minutes of riding) 100 foot cliffs without guardrails, speeds in the mid 50’s going right into a hairpin. The other rider from Colorado missed his line and went off the side of the road at 30 MPH, got ejected and flew through the air five feet off the ground in a backward seated position over a 30 cliff. His legs hit an aspen tree that put him in a helicopter spin and he landed 25 feet down on the side of the hill. He’s OK!
Spain’s Carlos Sastre delivered a big win in stage 19 of the Giro d’Italia which finished atop the infamous Mount Vesuvius. Wearing the Lake CX401 featuring the Boa Lacing System, the 2008 Tour de France champion attacked early on the final 13km climb to the summit finish line and completed the stage 20 seconds ahead of second-place rider Franco Pellizotti. It was the second stage win for the Cervelo team rider, following an earlier mountain stage success at Monte Petrano on Monday. Congrats Carlos! Read the rest of the story here at Velo News.
FootJoy athlete, Paul Goydos, almost took the prize at the Valero Texas Open this weekend in San Antonio wearing FootJoy ReelFits with Boa Technology. With a one stroke lead going into the last 2 holes, Goydos bogeyed the last two holes, taking third behind Zach Johnson and James Driscoll. For complete results click HERE. Boa Technology President Mark Soderberg barely escaped a monstrous spring snowstorm in time to arrive at the opening weekend of the annual Mountain States Cup mountain bike races in Fruita, Colorado. “It was amazing to have three feet of snow on the Front Range and be racing in sunshine and 70 degrees just four hours away,” says Soderberg.

It’s a good thing that Soderberg, a Category 1 mountain biker, made the trip (although his competition might not feel the same), because he came away with two wins in the 50+ age category.
In Saturday’s cross-country time trial, Soderberg edged second-place rider Hal Butler by 3.55 seconds. He covered the course in 19:33, a 10-second improvement from the previous year. Says Soderberg, “The time trial was a blast—great tight single track with a few fun rock obstacles and a finish with some roller coasters.”
In Sunday’s Big Event, the Shimano XTR Cross Country, Soderberg enjoyed a more comfortable winning margin, outpacing Butler by 2:06 – although it was not a ride in the park. Soderberg and Butler battled for most of the race.
“Racing was super fast average speed with tons of passing and close racing,” says Soderberg, who eventually pulled away. “I managed the win mostly because my two closest competitors had some mechanical issues late in the race allowing me to sneak out a win.”
In the end, Soderberg registered a time of 2:19:01 over the 27.5-mile course (described by him as “painfully long”).
