Vasque M-Possible Reviewed By Trail Magazine
Check out this great review of the 2009 Vasque M-Possible boot featuring the Boa Lacing System by Trail Magazine in the UK. What’s a “Doodle”…..?
On first seeing these new M-Possible boots from Vasque I was struck by the integral gaiters, but on picking them up I got a bigger shock. Hidden by the gaiter fabric, instead of the laces I had expected to see, was a dial and a web of fine wires. This unlikely-looking set-up is the Boa closure system – popular with snowboarders and golfers, apparently, but totally new to me. This twist sets the scene for these B2 mountaineering boots, because Vasque has stuffed them full of some very exotic materials. The spec list reads more like a parts list for something dreamed up in ‘Area 51’ than a boot for treading terra firma.
It’s hard not to be impressed by boots with a very respectable weight of 1650g (pair, size 46), particularly in the highly demanding B2 category. Sadly though I have been let down before with featherweight kit, and the airy feeling on my feet when setting off soon becomes the cold and wet sensation of reality.

Boa President Mark Soderberg Scores A Double Win at Mountain States Cup Opening Weekend
Boa Technology President Mark Soderberg barely escaped a monstrous spring snowstorm in time to arrive at the opening weekend of the annual Mountain States Cup mountain bike races in Fruita, Colorado. “It was amazing to have three feet of snow on the Front Range and be racing in sunshine and 70 degrees just four hours away,” says Soderberg.

It’s a good thing that Soderberg, a Category 1 mountain biker, made the trip (although his competition might not feel the same), because he came away with two wins in the 50+ age category.
In Saturday’s cross-country time trial, Soderberg edged second-place rider Hal Butler by 3.55 seconds. He covered the course in 19:33, a 10-second improvement from the previous year. Says Soderberg, “The time trial was a blast—great tight single track with a few fun rock obstacles and a finish with some roller coasters.”
In Sunday’s Big Event, the Shimano XTR Cross Country, Soderberg enjoyed a more comfortable winning margin, outpacing Butler by 2:06 – although it was not a ride in the park. Soderberg and Butler battled for most of the race.
“Racing was super fast average speed with tons of passing and close racing,” says Soderberg, who eventually pulled away. “I managed the win mostly because my two closest competitors had some mechanical issues late in the race allowing me to sneak out a win.”
In the end, Soderberg registered a time of 2:19:01 over the 27.5-mile course (described by him as “painfully long”).

A Retro Look for Parix-Roubaix….But Still Rocking the Boa Lacing System
Originally posted on i-am-specialized.com
April 10, 2009
Team QUICK STEP did a reconnaissance of the final 90 kilometres of the Paris-Roubaix today wearing their retro style cycling clothing that has already been on show thanks to Stijn Devolder when he was up on the winner’s podium at the Ronde Van Vlaanderen.
The very simple “layout” of the jersey that is produced by the team’s technical sponsors Vermarc, the rigorously black cycling shorts and the fantastic opaque black cycling helmet that is produced by Specialized echo earlier periods of epic and heroic cycling races.
What better location than a time-less and unique race such as the Roubaix?
“Pedalling away on the cobbles with this retro cycling clothing means we are taking a step back in time. Although the clothing is retro in style it still has all of the modern comforts and technical characteristics of 2009 – winner of the Roubaix 2008 Tom Boonen commented-. I am sure that members of the public will also really appreciate our idea of celebrating the Paris-Roubaix like this. The clothing we will be wearing is magic just like the atmosphere surrounding this event. The idea came up this winter during one of our Team photo shoots. Thanks to the enthusiasm of our sponsors and their collaboration we’ve been able to see our idea become reality”.
HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR TEAM QUICK STEP RETRO KIT?
The exclusive limited edition Retro clothing produced by Vermarc will be available, in limited quantities, on-line at the team’s website www.quickstepcycling.com from the first week of May.
